Today I’m repeating an article that I wrote last Valentines Day. The thousands of new members in the last year haven’t read it plus it’s a subject that many of us, myself included, should revisit often. It just so happens that I also want to tell you about a member of HitSafari whose success story compliments it very well.

Who’s Your Mentor This Week?

Many of us celebrated Valentines Day this month.. A hyped up, created by the card and chocolate manufacturers, useless holiday.. unless my husband gets me something wonderful and then it’s the most romantic day of the year!

Whether we celebrate or not, there is something we can learn by investigating the origins of St. Valentines Day. Valentines Day originated in the third century as a pagan tradition but as Christianity became prevalent, priests attempted to replace old heathen practices.

To Christianize the ancient pagan celebration of the Feast of Lubercus, the church officials changed the name to St. Valentine’s Day. To give the celebration further meaning and eliminate pagan traditions, priests did away with the tradition of drawing names of girls with drawing names of Saints.

On St Valentine’s Day the priest placed saint’s names into an urn or box. The young people then drew a name from the container. Throughout the following year, the youth was supposed to pattern their life after the saint whose name he had drawn.

While I would never place any of our favorite guru’s on the level of ‘Saint’, we do tend to look up to them and try to emulate them. And there’s a good reason that we do..

…they are successful. What they do works.

There is certainly nothing wrong with having a “guru” that you admire and imitate. The problem comes when we jump on “guru A’s” bandwagon this month and then, because we’re not showing the kind of success that “guru A” has, in a few weeks we abandon ship and jump on “guru B’s” wagon. (an interesting blend of metaphors, don’t you think?)

And in a few weeks we repeat with “Guru C”.

With the growing amount of individuals finding success in Internet Marketing plus the new and improved systems our originals keep coming up with, we could continue this cycle indefinately. (and many of us do) And the result of this vicious cycle? disillusionment.. dissatisfaction.. unhappiness.. Is it any wonder that so many people abandon their dream of Internet Marketing?

The fact is our failures are not due to poorly chosen mentors, but because we wanted.. hoped for.. even expected immediate gratification. Success does not come overnight or even in a month or two. Success comes from consistently applying proven methods over and over again.

n. 1.Achievement connotes final accomplishment of something noteworthy, after much effort and often in spite of obstacles and discouragements.

Call it abandoning ship.. call it program hopping.. whatever you call it, it is one of the quickest ways to fail in Internet Marketing. Remember, those we look up to and learn from have earned their position for a reason. They’ve put in their time and have found something that works.. and it will work for you as well.. if you stick with them.

So I would encourage you to do your homework.. find out who and what has the ideas that you can wrap your brain around.. who has the methods that you can see yourself doing.. who can you respect as a leader. Then commit yourself to following those plans and methods for one year.

You’ll find that by the end of the year that amazing changes will have taken place. Your disillusionment will be replaced with confidence, your dissatisfaction with loyalty and your unhappiness with high spirits that come from your new found experience with success!
